Getting to the ROOT of your hemp-infused skincare.

Hemp based products...from topicals to ingestibles to flipping CBD-infused YOU-NAME-IT are allllll the rage these days - but how do you know if they're really just trend-riding consumables or real potent life-enhancing products? That's a tricky question to answer, and even as a 'cannabis for wellness expert' myself - I can't provide a straight solution to that dilemma.

What I can do, though, is call out hemp-infused products that I use and love myself, and provide additional information on what you should look for when it comes to sourcing quality. In terms of skincare, it's important to realize that the REAL goodness (i.e. absorption, bioavailability, and anti-inflammatory benefits) is in the ROOT. Seriously - like hemp ROOT vs. just hemp seed...which is what most hemp-based skincare is using.

While hemp SEED is absolutely beneficial, touting the following advantages:

  • Helps regulate natural oil production
  • Helps to delay the effects of aging by protecting against sun damage
  • Protects the skin barrier
  • Used historically to treat psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis

Just like when I talk about the synergistic benefits of using a full-spectrum cannabis oil, same goes for skincare - you'll get SO much more if the ingredients list BOTH the seed and the root of hemp. Specifically, hemp ROOT oil has many restorative and protective benefits for the skin:

  • Promotes absorption of other active ingredients due to its high
  • bioavailability
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Soothes irritation
  • Has antimicrobial properties that help fight acne

This is probably why I first fell in-love with Ayurvedic-inspired skincare brand Urban Juve, which also just so happens to check allllll the boxes, including being cruelty free, using recyclable packaging, plant based + non-toxic ingredients, with attention paid to achieving a positive social impact for farmers and their families that grow these natural substances.

One of my favourites is their serum, thanks to their stellar line-up in the formula, including potent doses of:

Hyaluronic Acid* - Known for its for skin rejuvenation properties, it helps hold moisture into the skin and keeps the surface of the skin looking silky smooth. *Urban Juve Anti-Aging serum only uses vegan-sourced hyaluronic acid sourced from root vegetables.

Sea Buckthorn Oil - It is rich in minerals, antioxidants, carotenoids and omega 3, 6, and 7 fatty acids to improve overall skin complexion. Sea buckthorn oil also contains plant sterols to improve collagen production, helping to slow the signs of aging on the skin.

Hemp Root Oil - It is used because it has a synergistic effect on the essential oils, helping to increase absorption rates, penetrating past the surface of the skin.

Carrot seed oil - It's an essential oil rich with Vitamins A, C, and E - all antioxidants. These vitamins help to repair the skin, leaving it looking fresh and vibrant. Carrot seed essential oil is also used for its ability to cleanse and detoxify impurities on the surface of the skin to provide long-lasting, visible results.

I'm all for hemp being used for good - not greenwashing evil - and Urban Juve most definitely fits that bill. For those of you searching for hemp-based skincare that's going to really do the WERK - be mindful that the entire hemp plant is being utilized...and that includes the ROOT!
