Okay, I'll admit it - I've struggled with acne on and off all of my life. It's especially frustrating when you're known as a "wellness expert" and yet can't seem to control having perfect glowing skin 24/7. While diet and lifestyle most definitely plays a HUGE role in steering clear of debilitating zits (yes, they are debilitating), it's nice to be able to count on a good clean skincare line to help (and not hinder) your success. I've heard so many wonderful things about Clean Kiss Organics, as soon as I found out that they also have a specially formulated acne skincare line...I figured it was worth a shot! After 3 months, I feel like I can finally speak my truth on how these products worked for me - which I'll share 100% honestly at the end of this post. For now, I'd like to introduce you to the Founder of Clean Kiss Organics, Jodie Pappas - and some of her wisdom for those struggling with blemish-prone skin...
Q: What inspired your acne skincare line?
A: I had so many customers contacting me and telling me their heart wrenching stories of struggling with acne and looking for any solution that could help them. I’ve been there so I get it. I struggled with horrible teen acne. I mean big massive zits that I would pick and scar my skin because I didn’t know how to deal with them. And then again in my thirties after having my children I encountered adult hormonal acne that mostly hit my jawline with big juicy pimples and whiteheads that just kept popping up! It was so frustrating. I suffered from hormonal imbalances and PCOS my whole life so this is part of the challenge when you have have that. It was the reason I started formulating plant based skincare products. My acne stopped as soon as I switched to oil based natural products and my scars and the damage I caused is gone. I’m very fortunate for that and for making the switch.
Q: What are some of the most effective natural remedies for acne-prone skin?
A: I have several recommendations for topical natural remedies and ingredients to fight against the bacteria that causes acne. First of all, natural and clean ingredients such as Castile soap which is gentle and effectively cleans the skin deeply. Then other ingredients such as tea tree essential oil (melaleuca) to kill bacteria, jojoba oil to balance the sebum production, white willow bark to help exfoliate naturally instead of harsh salicylic acid, witch hazel to calm and tone the skin, and aloe vera to help heal acne scarring and blemishes. These natural ingredients are all included in our Kiss that Zit Goodbye Acne skincare line.
Q: How do your skincare products stand out amongst other "green/wellness" lines?
Q: What are your top 5 tips for shopping mindfully when it comes to beauty/skincare?
- Read labels.
- Ask questions.
- Start young.
- Go for simple and clean.
- Never compromise your health.
My verdict? After using Clean Kiss Organic Skincare for the past 3 months, I've honestly noticed a remarkable difference in the overall quality of my skin. I say "overall quality" because it's not just the acne that's gone (thank goodness!), but the texture and feel of my skin is better than ever. Sure, you can "kill" bacteria and ultimately get rid of acne with harsh dying chemicals, but then you're left with patchy and flakey inflamed skin - not a good look! What I love about CKO skincare is that I actually feel like I'm caring for my skin without irritating it, yet the acne-fighting efficacy is no-doubt still there and working strong! Thanks to Jodie, I'm back to using a toner (because this time I notice the benefits), and love my simple 3-step process...just cleanse, tone & moisturize (the lotion is my favourite and I love the smell!). I use the spot treatment now and again when I face a bit of a flare-up and it's just as gentle yet effective as the rest of the "slowly-yet-surely" magical ingredients she puts in her products. In all honesty, I'm just downright relieved I've found a line of skincare I can rely on - that doesn't hurt my skin, the environment, or my budget!
